First the legal facts - if you make unsolicited Sales or Marketing Call to any UK telephone number you must first check that the individual (or company) that you are calling is not on the TPS or CTPS registers.

The TPS is short for Telephone Preference Service, and CTPS stands for the Corporate Telephone Preference Service. The same legislation states that you are not permitted to send an 'unsolicited' fax to a telephone/fax number registered on the FPS (Fax Preference Service) register.

If you do call make an unsolicited call to a number registered on the TPS or CTPS register, or send an uninvited fax to a number registered on the FPS Register you could be liable for a £5,000 fine.
